Mission
Christian Formation Groups exist at St. David’s to promote individual spiritual growth, mutual support, first line pastoral care and fellowship through the study of God’s word and other facets of Christian life.
What are Christian Formation Groups?
- Christian Formation Groups meet regularly, outside of Sunday worship, and are lay led.
- Members strive to follow Christ’s examples through the 5 Root Values and 7 Spiritual Disciplines.
- As first line providers of pastoral care members should notify clergy as situations arise when members are in need.
- The leader of a specific Christian Formation Group serves as a facilitator for the group coordinating schedules, materials and routine communication with church leadership.
- Christian Formation Groups are Spirit guided and should start and end with prayer. Individuals in a group should be made comfortable to choose either silent or vocal prayer. Group prayers are also encouraged.
- Although Christian Formation Groups may share characteristics with short-term groups (confirmation class, a particular study of the bible etc.,) Christian Formation Groups are long term, semi-permanent groups.
- Christian Formation Groups are not therapy groups nor are they a class with a “teacher” or instructor.
- Christian Formation Groups may be “themed” as the group members feel appropriate (e.g. Married, Men, Women, Singles etc.)
To Join a Group
Individuals interested in joining a Christian Formation Group should examine the list of Shepherd Groups and Covenant Groups and their styles to find the best fit, contact the group leader and arrange for a visit. Not every individual will fit in every group so people are encouraged to visit multiple groups before choosing “their” group.
