My name is Edwin L. Harmon II; my family and I have been members of St. David’s Episcopal Church for two years. We were members of Truro Episcopal Church in Fairfax, VA for approximately eight years and enjoyed worshipping there. We moved to Ashburn from Herndon in 2003 and transferred our membership to St. David’s to find a traditional church community closer to home. Our search started with visits to other churches for awhile, but our prayers were answered when a family member & friend, Father Emmanuel Johnson encouraged us to visit St. David’s. I’ve been married to Francine Celine Harmon for eleven years and our wedding ceremony was performed by Father Emmanuel Johnson. We have two beautiful children, Breanna Louise who is ten years old and Edwin L. IV (Eluz) who is seven years old. They’re both students at the Temple Baptist Church School in Herndon, VA. Breanna is in the 4th grade and Eluz is in the 2nd grade. Both Francine and I are very fortunate and blessed to have two wonderful kids! Breanna and Eluz were members of the youth choir at St. David’s for a short while and we enjoyed attending the 9:15 AM Family Service. My family and I also serve as ushers/ greeters during the 10:45 AM service. I am a member of the men’s Shepherds Group, the choir and also the Bromley Mission Team. Our desire to serve and participate in the church was key factors that brought us to a smaller church community. We appreciate the openness and friendliness shown by the entire St. David’s Church Community and look forward to continuing our spiritual growth. I have a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Massachusetts and a Master of Science in Management from The University of Maryland University College in College Park, MD. Both Francine and I have worked in the telecom industry for over 15 years. I currently work for Sprint Nextel Corporation as a Manager of the Power & Energy Team. I am responsible for Sprint Nextel Corporation overall utility payment process and development of the network annual utility budget. I am honored to be recommended for the vestry and welcome this opportunity to serve. My participation in the Truth or Consequences Program, as a facilitator, allowed me the opportunity to better understand the importance of the vestry and the needs of the church. There are many challenges ahead of us as a congregation and a parish, but if we come together as a community, we can overcome these challenges. I’m optimistic and encouraged by the commitment I’ve seen at St. David and I believe there is a brighter future ahead. As a member of the vestry team I will work towards increasing the membership of our church by reaching out to former members and also support our outreach ministries to ensure continuous success & growth. My decision to be a part of this governing body is to see St. David’s continue to be a thriving covenant community. Thanks for your consideration. |
