Rector's Blog: Five Root Values at Work Again

This just in. To be filed under: Gospel, Not Limited To Church.

A parishioner sent me an email this morning connecting his faith with his work. I thought his email blog-worthy.

Our parish holds up Five Root Values and Seven Spiritual Disciplines as central to the life of faith. The Five Root Values come from the Ten Commandments. They are the secret to living a life that is healthy, happy, and whole.

He is in the process of writing his evaluation at work. Others have shared with me what a painful, onerous task writing one's own evaluation is. Well, here is one idea:

Kevin,

While putting together my end-of-year evaluation input & goals/objectives for next year, I found the 5 root values to be very helpful.

As a part of my input which included a lot of specific categories for professional development, business development, associate development, customer service, etc, etc, there was also an overarching portion where I stated that I strive to:

- Consistently demonstrate my concern for my fellow associates. (Value of Persons)

- Be committed to corporate and project goals. (Value of Commitment)

- Value other people’s experience, opinions, and recommendations. (Values of Legacy, Autonomy, and Truth)

It’s pretty cool to be able to incorporate these values throughout all parts of my life. And, chances are, if I am able to genuinely achieve the above, then I am probably doing things right.

Yeah. Pretty Cool.
