The new 5:00 PM service promises to provide space where Youth and Young Adults can gather to hear God’s voice speaking in the midst of their own experience. Although it will be directed toward younger people, other adults may find it a refreshing way to express faith. Traditional Episcopalians will HATE it. The music will be high energy. The message will address Life’s challenges in a direct way that encourages people to think more deeply about the direction and purpose of their lives. What will it sound like? Listen here Traditional liturgy assumes faith. Multiple readings from scripture, complex poetry in hymns, and rich and lyrical Eucharistic prayers support mature faith. Regrettably many people in our culture lack a mature faith. They need to hear God’s word in ways that connects with their own experience. They want to learn to pray using language they can understand. This liturgy will feature just one lesson from scripture. It will be rooted in lived experienced so participants can easily make the connection between what God is doing and what they are trying to do as they live lives in a complex and confusing world. The 5:00 PM liturgy will serve a population that is still learning what faith in God means. It will be for people who may have heard of Jesus, but who probably do not know who Jesus really is -- what it means for him to be the Son of God, the Incarnate Word, or the Bread of Life, or the Light of the World. Sunday, March 2 at 5:00 PM the new worship experience begins. |
