Rector's Blog: New Family Liturgy Getting Traction

It has been a busy couple of weeks around here. We are working hard to get our new Family Liturgy off to a good start on March 4.

Signs of progress include:

A great turnout for our initial leadership training day with children. Over 35 kids showed up (with their parents) to enlist as lay readers, chalice bearers, choiristers, drama team members, and acolytes. Needless to say, a good time was had by all.

26 families have committed so far with still a month to gather 24 more. We are looking for 50 families willing to commit to participate in this liturgy for its first eight weeks.

Our Preschool is helping to invite new families to explore the life of our parish through this new liturgy. We hosted our Preschool Open House on Monday. This is a pre-registration opportunity for the public to investigate the Preschool. About 150 people came. After welcoming them, I shared a 2 minute vision for the new Family Liturgy. The Preschool staff distributed a flyer explaining what we are doing and.... Parents (non-church members) began to call the church office the next day to commit to the service for eight weeks.

We have identified a coordinator for our new litrugy. Diane Brown comes to us with years of experience working with children and great passion for our new liturgy.

Every "department" is staffed with solid adult leadership.

And finally, leaders of our traditional Liturgies have embraced the new Family Liturgy and recommended a new Sunday morning worship schedule that makes room for this new effort.

So far so good. I look forward to hearing the joyful sounds of children worshiping together with their families come March 4. It is going to be a blast.
