Youth Choir Endorsed by Vestry
Image The parish may experience a new sound in September.  At its July 2008 meeting the Vestry endorsed a new ministry plan for a Youth Choir, under the direction of our Organist/Choir Master Joe Gabalski.

"At the present time there is not a music ministry for students who would like to lead worship using choral music," Gabalski wrote in the ministry plan.  "This ministry would address that need providing an environment where youth could utilize their talents to lead congregational singing using a variety of music, from early Renaissance to music written within the 21st century."

The plan includes weekly rehearsals for High Schoolers on Wednesday nights following the Wednesday night dinner.  The new Youth Choir would sing at that 10:45 AM service and perhaps occassional at 9:15 AM service as well.  The new plan includes a "mission tour" that would put the choir on on the road one week during the summer.

"I'm excited about the possibility of a Youth Choir," said Vestry member Karen Carter.  "I am leading the Traditional Worship Committee.  At our last meeting the committee talked about wanting to see youth involved in the traditional worship service."

Mark Boyer expressed enthusiastic support for the idea.  He also warned that limits in the parish budget may require the Vestry to withdraw financial support for the Youth Choir in 2009.

"I hate to see us begin something," Boyer said, "only to have to cancel it four months afer it is started."

Joe Gabalski expressed appreciation for the budgetary constraints.  He feels a strong call to support the faith of young people, and believes music can be integral part in their spiritual formation.

The Vestry endorsed the Youth Choir as a four month pilot program, dependent upon the results of the October Stweardship Campaign.
