Committing to a Hopeful Future

ImageThis Covenant Community is already a quarter of a way to the goal of eliminating the Diocesan mortgage.

Parishioners will receive a letter this weekend from the Vestry about the resolution “To Provide for a Hopeful Future.”  One of the goals is to raise $400,000, which is a combination of the $360,000 loan from the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia, and $40,000 that will be used to supplement the 2009 parish budget.

After making deep cuts in the parish budget, the $40,000 supplement for 2009 will allow the Vestry to continue funding our Youth Ministry.

Members of the Vestry and Staff have committed $100,980 to this goal.  Parishioners will receive a commitment card this weekend.  If commitments fall short of the $360,000 necessary to pay the note in full, all money already conribured will be returned and parishioners will be released from their commitments.

Any budget deficits, whether we fail to pay off the loan or pay it off and fall short of closing the $40,000 operating expense gap, will be addressed in the October 2008 Stewardship Campaign.

“This is incredible,” said Vestry member Mark Boyer upon hearing the news of the Vestry/Staff commitment.    “Hopefully we will send the message that we are committed to this path and willing to put our faith on the line for all to see.  It will hopefully be a catalyst for others to prayerfully consider.”

"This demonstrates and defines 'hope'", said John Knox.
