El Hogar Mission 2008
Written by Larry Hinkin

ImageIf anyone questions God’s existence, they should go on a mission to a poor country.  St. David’s annual mission to Honduras does just that.  Since 2003, this Covenant Community has sent a work team to Honduras in support of El Hogar, “the home,” which is a boys’ home and school.

El Hogar’s boys are not necessarily orphaned.  But they come from hopelessly poor families who have cast them out on the street to fend for themselves.

The boys of El Hogar are between the ages of 5 and 14. When the boys are 14 they move on to the agricultural school and farm, or the technical institute in the town of Amarateca where they learn to become carpenters, electricians or welders.  Through their training, they will acquire a skill or trade, in hopes that someday the will become part of the near non-existent middle class. They are truly the future of Honduras.
