Why do I need to fill out a pledge card every year? The annual giving campaign allows the vestry to allocate the resources of the parish and the pledge card is the primary communication the congregation uses to share their intention to give and at what amount. What is a tithe? A “tenth”. What is biblical tithing? In general, biblical tithing refers to the practice of giving one tenth of one's income for the work of God. In the Hebrew Bible (also called "the Old Testament"), tithing was understood as a response of gratitude and an obligation. In the light of the New Testament, some Christians believe tithing is still an obligation, whereas other Christians understand tithing to be a loving, freely-chosen response to God's gracious provisions for life and God's grace! Tithing is understood by many Christians to be a very helpful discipline of one's faith life. If I am not ready to tithe, but I want to make a financial contribution, will I be treated differently than other people in church? Absolutely not. Is Stewardship just about money? Stewardship is not just about money. It is a fundamental of Christian discipleship. It involves how we live and how we give. It is about care for creation. It begs the question: What do we give in response for all that has been given to us? We give time, talent, and treasure in response to the gifts of unconditional love, salvation, and grace. Most people find giving their time and talent easy, almost natural. Giving our treasure seems more difficult for many people. Why aren’t we talking about time and talent this year? This year we are focusing on treasure in October and on time and talent in the Spring. Our hope is to keep the focus on the stewardship of all God’s gifts throughout the year, not just in October. Is my contribution tax-deductible? Yes Does St. David’s Episcopal Church receive money from any sources other than its membership? Other than an occasional small grant from the National Church or The Diocese of Virginia, financial contributions from our parishioners are the only source of funding we receive. Can I make my contribution automatically? Yes. To take advantage of the automatic direct debit, please visit our website, print the ACH form and return the completed form to the church office with a canceled personal check. Your contribution will be deducted from your account once a month. Can I change my pledged amount during the year? Yes. You may either download a copy of the pledge card from the St. David’s website, www.sdlife.org, complete it and put in the offering basket or contact the office to let them know the new amount. No reason or explanation is necessary. |
