Interfaith Relief

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink..."

Loudoun Interfaith Relief, located in Leesburg, has a mission to feed the hungry by providing emergency food assistance to those in need, to any person or family, living in Loudoun County. Those who come to the distribution center receive a three day supply of groceries with which to prepare balanced, nutritious meals for themselves and their families.

As the population of Loudoun County has increased, so have the number of people living below the poverty line. In 2009, a record 56,426 individuals (that is over 14,000 families) were served by Interfaith Relief. That is a 43% increase from the previous year. No one leaves without an ample supply of food to feed their family.

The parishioners of St David’s have generously donated food to Interfaith Relief since January 2005. In 2009, the church donated 3966 pounds of food, as well as over $180 in gift cards and cash, and the preschool donated 1273 cans of food! But there is clearly a need for more, and you can help.

On the last Sunday of every month, red bags are handed out after each service. Please fill a bag or 2 with non-perishable food items and bring them back. If you didn’t get a red bag, any bag or box will do. Place the food in the wagon in the Narthex and the food will be delivered to Interfaith Relief.

The following items are suggestions and needed throughout the year:

  1. Cereal
  2. 100% fruit juice
  3. Canned tuna
  4. Canned chicken
  5. Peanut butter (small jars)
  6. Jelly
  7. Canned fruit
  8. Spaghetti sauce with meat
  9. Canned vegetables
  10. Hearty soups
