Some tend to think of Abundance in material terms. This is appropriate. We are not angels after all. We have bodies to feed, to keep warm on a cold November morning, and to transport from place to place. But someone who limits his vision of the Lord's Abundance to the material only misses most of richness the Lord pours into our lives every day. The sky is gray today. It promises rain. The air is an energetic 40 degrees. The trees have shed some of their leaves, but not all. What remains are a rusty brown with just a hint of green remaining. Adundance. Jonathan is in the next room dancing to Queen's, Another One Bites the Dust. Why he loves that song is a mystery to me. But he plays it every day and moves like a rock star. Abundance. I made some cupcakes for a friend's 48th birthday yesterday. He expressed his appreciation in a playful way that highlights the abiding goodness found in simple friendship. Abundance. Claire forgot something she needed at school. She called home, made her appeal; I delivered. She met me at the front of her school. The gratitude and appreciation that shown through her eyes blessed the rest of the day. Abundance. Tomorrow is Sunday. I will gather with friends and parishioners and we will express our gratitude for the Lord's Abundance in our lives. Every person there comes with his and her own experience of divine grace that has filled our cups to overflowing. Abundance. What do you see of the Lord's Abundance today? |
