What's new at St. David's? Two new part-time, temporary, paid positions have been added in the church office to facilitate parish administration: parish administrator and administrative assistant. With the addition of these two new positions, the general manager role has decreased to part time through the remainder of the year, as Jim Tracy accepts new responsibilities as general manager of a local community association. Congratulations, Jim! Welcome Sommer Long! Sommer Long, a recent University of Mary Washington graduate, joined the staff on Monday, September 22, 2008, as administrative assistant. Reporting to the parish administrator, Sommer is responsible for administrative support and is the first voice everyone hears when calling the office for directions or assistance during a family emergency or crisis. Sommer's administrative responsibilities include preparation of bulletins, creating the 9:00 a.m. contemporary service PowerPoint, managing both US mail and e-mails and maintaining the campus facilities calendar. She is looking forward to getting to know the people who make up our parish and contributing to its success. Welcome back, Carrie Rush! Effective Monday, September 22, 2008, Carrie Rush assumed a new assignment as parish administrator, a newly created role based on the phase-out of the general manager position. The parish administrator role is slated for 25 hours a week. It is responsible for ensuring the parish office is responsive to parishioner needs, oversight of the administrative assistant, serving as point of contact for janitorial and IT services and other vendors on the property, managing the Rector's calendar, oversight of stewardship campaign data, providing guidance to volunteer ministry leaders, as well as leading special projects as assigned by the rector. Words from the Rector St. David's Rector Kevin Phillips adds, "Having a parish administrator and administrative assistant creates new opportunities for us. We don't lose the general manager's strategic input as he moves to a part time capacity through the end of the year. Carrie's attention to detail and understanding of office administrative process are key. Both she and Sommer provide seamless transition which will get us through the end of 2008. The success of the stewardship campaign will determine the level of administrative support in 2009." |
