ImageSt. David’s Angel Tree

The mission of Community Holiday Coalition is “To serve families, children and senior citizens by providing needed items in a manner that promotes dignity and self-respect. We believe that a single act of kindness can be the turning point toward a brighter future for those in need.”

ImageSince 1996, the Community Holiday Coalition "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" program has helped thousands of Loudoun County families have a wonderful holiday season. Each year nearly 1,000 volunteers and donors come together to "Brighten up the Holidays" for low-income Loudoun County residents. Community Holiday Coalition supports both a Thanksgiving and a Christmas program each year. A “store” is stocked with donated food, merchandise and gift cards and eligible families and senior citizens may select items based on their family and personal needs.

Each year St. David’s participates in gathering much needed merchandise through our St. David’s Angel Tree. The Angel tree is decorated by members of our GIRLS Group and the congregation is invited to participate in donating and gathering donated items and placing them under the tree through the first Sunday in December. The GIRLS Group then delivers these items to the “store” in time for festive shopping.

Blessing of the Animals on St. Francis of Assisi Sunday

The Blessing of the Animals, a custom held in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures, was held this year on October 9, 2011. Zoe Velling and Daniel Hellstrom sang “Colors of the Wind” and “All Things Bright and Beautiful” while Rev. Mary Kay blessed 25 well-behaved dogs and 1 cat. Monetary donations, as well as dog and cat food, treats, bedding, and toys were delivered to the Middleburg Humane Foundation. The Middleburg Humane Foundation is a non-profit shelter that rescues and rehabilitates large and small abused and neglected animals on their 4-acre farm. It was a wonderful event for all. “As God has blessed us with these pets, so may they be blessed by our love and care.”
