Backpack Buddies

ImageBackpack Buddies is a program model created by Feeding America to provide food for the weekend to elementary school children who are in need. Beginning March 9, 2012, St. David’s is supporting 44 students at a local elementary school through the Backpack Buddies program. Every week, we will provide a grocery bag filled with 6 meals and 2 snacks plus juice and shelf milk for each child. The school will fill the child’s backpack with the food to take home for the weekend.

How can you help? Please donate individually-packaged lunch, dinner and snack foods, juice boxes or shelf milk. You can drop off your donation on the steel rack in the back left corner of the Narthex. If you prefer, you can make a financial donation (cash or a check made out to St. David’s with Domestic Outreach in the memo line) using a red envelope located near the rack in the Narthex. Red envelopes can be placed it in the offertory basket or returned to the church office. For a detailed list of food items please click here.

Cooks For Christ

ImageSince April, 2011 Cooks for Christ has been providing a meal for residents of the Loudoun County Emergency Homeless Shelter on the first Monday night of every month. We prepare the meal, serve it, eat dinner with the residents and help clean up. You can participate in all aspects of the dinner or in any way that fits your schedule and gifts. Your whole family can participate. Our Cooks for Christ team develops a variety of menus so if you have a specialty you would like to share please let them know.

Grace To Go

ImageOn Sunday, January 16th, 2011 we commissioned Grace to Go. St. David's is partnering with St. James’ Episcopal Church and Deli South in Leesburg to provide nutritious meals of baked chicken, potatoes, broccoli, carrots and a roll to those who are hungry. The ministry work of cooking is done on Sunday afternoons from 2:30-4:30pm and the meal distribution is done on Monday evenings at St. James’ Episcopal in downtown Leesburg. St. David's has committed volunteers and finances to provide the meals one Sunday each month.

Interfaith Relief

ImageLoudoun Interfaith Relief, located at at 750 Miller Drive, Suite A-1 off of Sycolin Road in Leesburg, has a mission to feed the hungry by providing emergency food assistance to those in need, to any person or family, living in Loudoun County. Those who come to the distribution center receive a three day supply of groceries with which to prepare balanced, nutritious meals for themselves and their families.

St. David’s has generously donated food to Interfaith Relief since January 2005. On the last Sunday of every month, red bags are handed out after each service. Please fill a bag or bags with non-perishable food items and bring them back the following Sunday. If you didn’t get a red bag, any bag or box will do. Place the food in the wagon in the Narthex and your donation will be delivered to Interfaith Relief. The following items are suggestions and needed throughout the year: Cereal, 100% fruit juice, canned tuna, canned chicken, Peanut butter (small jars), Jelly, Canned fruit, Spaghetti sauce with meat, canned vegetables, Hearty soups and Chef Boyardee meals.
