Loudoun County’s Cold Weather Shelter The emergency cold weather shelter provides a warm, safe shelter for homeless individuals, along with a warm meal, showers, a clean bed to sleep in, breakfast and a bag lunch. Comforts and provisions that most of us take for granted. From now through the end of February, St. David’s is collecting items including men's long underwear and gloves, sample/travel size personal care items, especially men's razors, and $5 -$10 gift cards for 7-11 which can be used for a warm cup of coffee and for gas. Also, SOCKS are always needed. A collection box is in the Narthex. "The Good Shepherd Alliance is a Christian non-profit organization providing help and hope for the homeless and those in need through emergency and transitional housing and outreach services leading to self-sufficiency and self-worth. The Good Shepherd Alliance, Inc. exists to provide women, children, and families in crisis with emergency shelter, food, clothing, children's programs, counseling and transitional housing for pregnant women so as to empower them to become self-sufficient in the shortest-possible time.“ On September 18th, 2010 over 50 St. David’s parishioners participated in GSA’s 6th Annual Walk for Shelter to help raise awareness for the growing homeless population in Loudoun County. Watch the video. On June 4, 2011 parishioners attended the GSA Old Thyme County Fair and our Domestic Outreach Team supplied face painters for the Children’s Event area, the Princess and the Pirate were a huge hit with the kids! Loudoun Habitat for Humanity was incorporated on April 2, 1993 for the specific purpose of providing adequate housing for all Loudoun citizens in need. It is the conviction of Loudoun Habitat for Humanity that everyone deserves an opportunity to work to obtain adequate shelter. Their ministry is based on Christian principles and they welcome the participation of people of all faiths as they grow the organization and strive to fund and build homes for those in need. St. David’s parishioners can volunteer at walk-on home builds and in many other ways. Loudoun Habitat is now using an online scheduling system, VolunteerUP which will help keep you informed as opportunities arise. Don’t forget to donate to and shop at the Re-Store located in Purcellville. For more information on any of these ministries please visit their websites.
