- NAEYC Developmentally Appropriate Guidelines: National Association for the Education of Young Children is the largest professional organization of early childhood educators. This organization published position statements in the late 80’s for the purpose of helping schools that were failing due to the use of a more formal and academic instruction of young children. In these guidelines NAEYC emphasizes the roles of the teacher in supporting children’s development and learning; the importance of meaningful and contextually relevant curriculum; and the significant role of families in early childhood education. These guidelines are reviewed regularly. NAEYC has its own website,

- High/Scope Curriculum: High/Scope Curriculum was established in 1961 in Ypsilanti, Michigan and its evolution was influenced by the child development theories of Jean Piaget. This curriculum is founded on the belief that young children learn best through active learning, children learning by doing. You can learn more about High/Scope at http://www.highscope.com/.
- Creative Curriculum: Creative Curriculum is based on the idea of organizing the classroom into interest areas or centers.
