Fr. Norman joins the staff as Assistant to the Rector with a focus on youth ministry. Fr. Norman recently graduated from Virginia Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity degree. He was ordained to the transitional diaconate on June 11, 2011 in the Diocese of Los Angeles, and was ordained a priest in the Diocese of Virginia on December 10, 2011.

Fr. Norman grew up in Southern California. He has a bachelor degree in linguistics from Harvard University and an MD degree from Yale School of Medicine. Following medical residency in Philadelphia, Fr. Norman practiced internal medicine in Northern Virginia for 9 1/2 years before following a call to ordained ministry.

Life in the church is not new to Fr. Norman. He began as a child singing in the choir of the Baptist church where his grandfather was the pastor. Eventually, he served as a pianist/organist and choirmaster of the youth & young adult choirs. Fr. Norman was confirmed in the Episcopal Church in 1991 and has been very active since, serving on numerous parish committees, vestry, and lay pastoral care. Fr. Norman loves to sing and has sung tenor in a number of semi-professional parish choirs.

In his spare time, Fr. Norman enjoys cooking, wine tasting, sci-fi and fantasy movies, biking, skiing, and playing the piano. He likes church history, antiquities, and collecting religious icons. He also loves to travel; he has visited Europe several times and went on a pilgrimage to The Holy Land in 2010. Also in 2010, Fr. Norman participated in the Canterbury Scholars Program, which brought together nearly 40 clergy and seminarians from around the Anglican Communion for a two-week conference at Canterbury Cathedral in England. In addition, he has participated in medical missions to Nicaragua and Ecuador. He is fluent in Spanish and French.

Fr. Norman lives in Ashburn with his cat, Tilly. He is very excited to be a part of the wonderful St. David’s parish family and is looking forward to getting to know everyone. He is eager to share his gifts of ministry.
