The Youth Ministry Leader works to empower the Youth of our parish for faithful leadership by helping them build strong mentoring relationships with adults.

Our new Youth Ministry Leader, Jesse Fullen and his wife, Becca both started life with an understanding of religion. However, it was not until their high school years that either recognized a true relationship with the Lord. As adults, they both look back upon their lives and see a world that constantly, and sometimes abruptly, changes, while God provides an everlasting presence. Jesse cites 2 Timothy, the second epistle of Paul the Apostle to Timothy, as his favorite book of the Bible. The epistle can be seen as a handbook for young ministers to gospel, and Jesse particularly admires Paul’s combination of theology and reality in his last letter. Similarly, Becca cites Romans 12:2 “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind...” (NKJV) as her favorite biblical passage. Both found their home in the Lord as a youth, and know that it is with God’s hand that they have been guided to lead our young people at St. David’s Episcopal Church.

Jesse’s first experience in faith occurred during his sophomore year in high school when he joined the youth ministry at his church. By the end of his high school career, Jesse had become a leader in the Christian Club ministering to his classmates. He knew then that he had been called to serve youth. Immediately after high school Jesse served as an intern at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and then as the Youth Director at St. Michael’s Episcopal, both in Houston, Texas. He also studied at the College of Biblical Studies in Houston, with two part-time positions at a Presbyterian and an Episcopal Church. Jesse then moved to California, becoming an Administrative Assistant at the Center for Student Missions (CSM.org) where he had the opportunity to minister to youth in the inner city of Los Angeles. An internship with Sammamish Presbyterian in Sammamish, Washington took his ministry to the Northwest where he continued his education at Trinity Lutheran College in Seattle. Returning back home to Houston, Jesse earned a living working at Starbucks and volunteering in youth ministry. During that time he raised $1000 so that he could join a mission heading to the Church of God in Budakalasz, Hungary. This mission provided exposure to immeasurable faith and knowledge of ministry. Prior to accepting the Youth Ministry Leader position with St. David’s, Jesse built and ministered the youth ministry at St. Francis Episcopal in Houston for eighteen months.

In October 2005, Jesse and Becca met through a mutual friend on myspace.com. Jesse was compelled by her profile, which mentioned her participation in youth ministry. Their first date was spent at a carnival, ministering to youth through Becca’s church. From the start, their relationship was based on faith and a calling to minister to youth. As they were saved at that poignant time in life, they live to share the word with the world’s youth. Four years later, they now hope to bring to Saint David’s youth ministry a student-led mentor program, additional bible studies, focus on community service and more interfaith partnerships.
