The Diocese of Virginia is the oldest diocese in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is descended from the first Anglican parish in the new world founded in 1607 with the colony at Jamestown. Formed in 1785, the Diocese of Virginia is the largest Episcopal diocese in the United States. Historically it has always been and continues to be a church that lifts up and values lay leadership. Our Bishop is the Right Reverend Peter James Lee. He makes annual visits to the parish to encourage our shared ministry. He is broadly respected for his courage in faith and grace in leadership. Bishop Lee is supported in his ministry by the Rt. Rev. David Jones, and the Rt. Rev. Shannon S. Johnston -- who will become our Diocesan Bishop upon Bishop Lee's retirement sometime in the next two or three years. |
