Term: 2009-2011 I am a 54 year-old professional pilot. As co-owner and Vice President of TISMA, Inc., a Dulles-based aircraft management and charter company, I manage over $140 million of corporate aircraft assets. I fly a wide variety of travelers worldwide, among them business executives, domestic and foreign dignitaries and heads of state. I live in Ashburn Farm with my wife of 17 years, Alice, 12 year old daughter (and acolyte), Giselle, and 11 year old son, Ansel. Born and raised a Roman Catholic, I first encountered a personal God at a Christian camp in northern Pennsylvania at age 9. (My son enthusiastically attends that very same camp every summer without fail; see me if you have a youngster looking for the perfect mix of rustic fun and spiritual guidance). I was initially drawn to the Episcopal Church through the National Cathedral. After moving to Ashburn in December of 1997, I happened upon the “Episcopal Church Welcomes You” sign next to the dirt road that led to the humble sanctuary in the woods known as St. David’s. My family and I were enthusiastically greeted by a dynamic, giant of a man, our Rector Emeritus Stephen McWhorter, and I was thusly bestowed with the gift of my spiritual home. Believing that we are called to serve God by offering time, talent and treasure, I have had the privilege to serve in various ways, among them:
I embrace the Five Root Values (especially commitment) and practice the Seven Spiritual Disciplines. I honor and give thanks for the solid foundation laid by our two previous Rectors (specifically the indelible marks they have left on my soul) and the selfless, faithful service of Father Emmanuel Johnson. I am particularly thankful for the opportunity to worship with a diverse, covenant community blessed not just with some leaders, but filled with gifted leaders. While I am painfully aware of the challenges our faith community faces, I have witnessed first-hand what prayer, faith and commitment can accomplish at the hands of gifted leaders under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. That is why I am very excited about the future of St. David’s and our incoming Interim Rector, and believe that St. David’s best days are just ahead. |
