Youth

People experience the most dynamic period of change in their lives during their teenage years. They value friendships with adults who will walk with them and share their challenges, but not solve all their problems. Our ministry with youth celebrates the power of God who is already at work at work in their young lives. Youth recognize the power of God at work in the world. We invite young people to share what they see. We provide the opportunity to the deeper mystery that lies just beneath the surface of their experience.

MS Sunday School - Sundays @ 10 AM

MS/HS Sunday School is provided after the 9 AM service on Sundays in the Boslaugh Building/Church Office. These sessions are short, mini-Bible Studies, specifically designed for MS/HS Youth. During the month of June we will be examining further the lectionary readings from the 9 AM Services – students will ask questions about and discuss in greater detail what they heard during the service and explore the context of same. Thus, topics will vary from week-to-week, based on the subject matter determined by our Rector.

MS/HS Youth Groups - Sundays @ 6 PM

Our Sunday evening Youth Group program is designed to encourage Fellowship amongst the Youth of our community, and to explore real-life issues MS and HS students face every day, all while building relationships with Parish adults and Youth Leaders. Though we usually set time aside to pray and learn, discussions are centered on the relevance of the Scriptures to our modern life. The normal format includes 15 minutes of meet and greet at the beginning, followed by about 45-60 minutes of combined “play” in the form of indoor/outdoor games, get-to-know you exercises, etc. Then, we either discuss concepts outlined in our weekly “Look-Book-Took’s,” the Sunday morning readings, and/or information communicated during the morning Homilies. Depending on the number of attendees and the topic(s) of discussion, we may or may not split into separate MS and HS groups for this part of the program. Youth Leaders (some of our HS Seniors) lead most of the activities, assisted by the Adult Leaders in attendance. Thus, in additional to everything else described, this program affords our Youth the opportunity to learn/enhance their leadership, planning, and organizational skills in a safe setting.

HS Bible Study - Tuesdays @ 7 PM

HS Bible Study is an opportunity for High School students [only] to come together to study Scripture and it’s applicability to their lives, in an age-appropriate and casual setting. We meet each week in the Starbucks in Lansdowne Town Center. We recently completed the Book of Matthew and moved on to our study of Romans. We will likely continue Romans through completion. Please note: we may, actually, be suspending these sessions for the summer if it is determined there is a lack of interest. Nevertheless, whether we continue through the summer or re-start in September, the format will remain unchanged.

HS Senior Discussion Group - Tuesdays @ 8 PM

All high school seniors are invited to join in an informal discussion group focusing on issues particular to seniors, including discussions about discernment and making important life decisions. The group will meet immediately following the Tuesday evening Bible Study at 8 PM and will conclude by 9 PM. Please contact Fr. Norman Whitmire for more information.

REACH Workcamps - Each Summer

Annually, we also participate in a week-long, Youth-centered, Domestic Outreach activity – REACH Workcamps – where about 60 youth and adult leaders from our parish travel to depressed locations in the U.S., where we help repair their homes and build relationships.
