First Steps

This four week class provides a basic orientation to faith. Participants learn the covenantal structure of the Bible. This direct and straight forward discussion of the dominant theme of the Bible helps a person navigate the rich and complex ancient narrative.

The first step is to learn the significance of the story of Abraham, where the biblical narrative introduces the divine covenant. Genesis 12:1-3

The second step is to learn how God invites a band of Hebrew slaves into the divine covenant and through their faithfulness, transforms them into a covenant community.  After being liberated from oppression in the house of Pharaoh under the leadership of Moses, Israel responds to the invitation to embrace covenant relationship with God. Exodus 19:3-9

A third step is to learn how the divine covenant transforms a band of slaves into a covenant community of rich and abundant blessing. The Ten Commandments express the Root Values that allow people to find mutual support in the covenant they share together with God.
