We are a covenant community

To covenant together means to bind oneself to another for unconditional mutual support. The bible portrays God as a covenant maker. The biblical narrative tells story after story of how God enters into covenant relationships with people.

God binds himself to Abraham, saying, “I will bless you so that by you all the nations of the world will be blessed.” Genesis 12:2

God binds himself to the people of Israel, saying, “If you will hearken to my voice and keep my covenant you will be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” Exodus 19:5

Finally, God binds himself to humanity in Christ Jesus, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

A covenant community learns how to love one another because in covenant relationship with God they discover what it means to be truly loved.
