Spiritual Disciplines

An empowered relationship with Jesus grows over time. Certain practices create space in your life where the Holy Spirit is free to work. Spiritual disciplines are not rules or expectations. Nor are they a standard of divine judgment. They build up a person's faith and help a person learn how to enter more deeply into relationship with God and other people.

Not everyone practices spiritual discipline in their lives. When one first learns of the opportunity to grow through nurturing a more intentional faith, it takes time to readjust priorities. Old habits die hard.

However, those who embrace these seven Spiritual Disciplines find their lives enriched. They have their eyes opened to see the abundance of God's blessing that fills their lives every day. They discover the great joy of becoming a blessing to others.

Prayer
In prayer you listen to the voice of God speaking deeply within your heart. Ask Jesus to help you listen.

Bible Study
Bible study reveals the purposes of God. It reveals the meaning, purpose and significance of your life. It provides the “big picture.” Read slowly. Ask Jesus to give you understanding.

Sabbath Keeping
Sabbath Keeping unites you with the covenant community in a seven-day cycle that frames your life in God’s purposes. Ask Jesus to bless your week.

Tithing
Tithing is the offering of “first-fruits.” When you return 10% of the financial gift God gives, you break the power of money-dependency and money-idolatry in your life. Ask Jesus to give you courage in faith.

Shepherd Group
When you meet weekly with a small group you experience the love of God through the love of neighbor. Ask Jesus to help you support others in faith.

Gifted Ministry
The Holy Spirit gives you gifts to use in the up-building of your covenant community. Ask Jesus to help you experience the vitality of the Holy Spirit at work in what you do.

Sharing the Story
Sharing the Story of God’s work in your life helps you to be mindful of the Holy Spirit moving in your life every day. Ask Jesus to help you share the story that comes from richness of your own experience.
