I have been worshiping at St. David’s with my family, Mary Kay Brown, Dylan and Abby, since the spring of 2003. I advise elected and appointed policy makers in the National Capital Region on homeland security. My wife, Mary Kay, full time mom and seminarian at Virginia Theological Seminary, expects to graduate in May, 2008.

Since finding St. David’s in the spring of 2003 my role has been to support Mary Kay in her discernment process and seminary work, which takes Mary Kay out of the house for long periods of time. I provide the financial support for her and take up the slack at home. I supported her in her role of leader of the Spiritual Gifts Team including assisting in two ministry fairs.

I am an active Wednesday night discipleship attendee. I participated in the “visioning game” and am now engaged with eight others to develop recommendations for new 2007 initiatives that will need leadership to succeed. I am a member of a Shepherd group. We pledge. We are regular communicants. I successfully spearheaded a fundraising initiative to close our ’06 fiscal gap. We raised almost $20,000.

Why am I interested in serving on the Vestry and why should you put your trust in me?

I am on fire! I am passionate! A 40 year Episcopalian; a member of children and adult choirs, a cantor, a Boy Scout and serious seeker of the Truth. For most of this time, I did not find the Truth in the Church. At St. David’s I have found a growing community of serious seekers, led by a serious seeker and teacher, Kevin Phillips. I am drawn like a moth to the flame to St. David’s and the promise of a growing and thriving covenant community where trust and love abound and where the Truth is alive.

My skills include: problem solver; strategic visionary leader; big picture thinker; driver personality, prone to push tangible, measurable results; influencer, able to generate support and enthusiasm to solve problems.

The visioning game taught me about the business of St. David’s and how desperate we are for more involvement by parishioners in the current success and future life and vitality of our growing covenant community. I became sensitive to our financial situation. For me it is time to jump off the sidelines and make a commitment to the present and lend my skills and gifts to the future.

Three years out I see a stronger St. David’s where we have room to meet and celebrate, to worship and educate, to launch and support community outreach needs. I see a vibrant and growing covenant community where the Truth works to transform lives into more deliberate and intentional partnership in God’s work.
