Exciting times are ahead for St. David’s as the vestry works toward developing the next steps for this very unique Episcopal church. During the season of Advent, Kevin asked that we dream dreams and now is the time for the vestry to dream their dream for St. David’s.

The people selected for the vestry will serve three year teams and I believe these three years will define what St. David’s will be far beyond these three years. The vestry has the wonderful opportunity to chart a course that will make this church one that teaches us how to have a closer relationship with God, strengthens our hope and faith for life in these chaotic times, and continues its care and concern of everyone, regardless of where they are in their faith journey.

I believe my past and current activities at St. David’s prepare me for this position. I have served as a delegate to the Diocesan Council Meeting in 2005 and 2006, served as secretary to the Rector Search Committee, was a facilitator for a visioning team and served as administrator for the Prayer Tree for 2006. I have been and continue to serve on the Altar Guild and as a lay reader. I also volunteer at the church office each Monday to answer the phones during the weekly staff meeting and am a member of a shepherd group.

The time and service spent in these various activities have provided me with an understanding of what makes St. David’s a very special place. Service on the Rector Search Committee allowed me to learn about the many aspects of St. David’s and its expectations for the future. Service as prayer tree administrator has shown me the love, care and concern our members have for anyone in need of God’s love and protection during difficult times. Serving as the facilitator of one of the visioning teams provided insight into the wide spread hope of all of the teams for a very bright future for the church.

I moved to Ashburn three years ago to be near family. After spending 32 years with the American Academy of Family Physicians and being blessed to have spent my professional life doing something I very much believed in and also very much enjoying my life in Kansas City, I thought it was time to work less and play more. I have been a member of the Episcopal church for most of my adult life but was raised in the Presbyterian church.

There are special times ahead for this church, and I am very confident we will rise to any challenges we face and will make our dreams become a reality.
