I have experienced spiritual renaissance and a greater commitment to my Episcopal faith since I was invited to worship at St. David’s in 1998. For the first years, I sat on the sidelines attending services and special events. During a Sunday morning service, circa 2004, a very special person “penetrated my loneliness.” She discerned sadness in my eyes that reflected the pain in my heart. After service I talked and she listened; and, in return I received her care, compassion and support. Her call was for me to become involved in a Shepherds Group a concept that was new to me. Within a week, I received an invitation to participate in a Shepherds Group which was the spark that ignited my spiritual reawakening.

I began to learn more about our faith through study and participation in the Wednesday Night Forums. The fall of 2005, I enrolled in Journey in Faith, which gave me the courage to more than just step out but to leap up in faith and joy. As a result, in the presence of Jocelyn, my daughter and Jordan, my grand daughter, I was baptized again on December 18, 2005. My baptism fanned the flame that continues to strengthen my spiritual commitment and engagement.

My engagement continues to deepen and expand. As a lay reader minister, I look forward to studying the lessons which has increased my understanding of the Bible and confidence in sharing the Word. Participating on the Bromley Mission Team proves that all good works can be accomplished by prayer and dedication to a common vision. I learned more about parish ministries and challenges by playing The Game as a member of the yellow team. Currently, I am a member of the strategic planning team that is developing key initiatives that will support vision attainment.

After a 25 year career, I retired from Xerox as vice president, sales education and learning. During my Xerox career, I was responsible for building new businesses, developing communication plans and leading the change agenda for several large organizations. In 2001 I became a skin care consultant with Mary Kay Cosmetics and I have served as marketing and business development consultant for small and emerging businesses.

Community involvement has played a critical role in my development. I have served on the George Washington University, Virginia Campus Advisory Board; the YWCA of Metropolitan St. Louis Board; the Loudoun County Economic Development Commission as co-chair of the education and workforce development committee; and currently on the board of the Four Seasons home owners association.

In conclusion, as a vestry team member, my goal is to support the attainment of our vision through participatory leadership; by offering a diverse perspective on issues and challenges; and by offering a quality approach to problem solving and decision making. My passion for life long learning continues and I am looking forward to leading the adult learning ministry, a key component of our five year strategic plan. Last and certainly not least, as a future Shepherds Group facilitator, my hope is to envision “the glory of God is a human being fully alive.”
