Truth or Consequences
ImageAt its recent retreat the Vestry responded to the Rector's challenge to lead the parish in a discernment process that would inform a Vestry's decision on May 28, 2008 that will determine the future of the parish.

The Vestry is looking for 40 parishioners.  These 40 people will participate in the "first wave" of an experience that will help deepen parishioner understanding of the challenge facing our church.  After completing the 3 hour workshop, "The First 40" will lead between 200-350 other parishioners in the same experience.  To register, please contact our General Manager, This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

The Vestry has developed a workshop called, Truth or Consequences.  The worshop involves a "game" that helps parishioners grapple with our capacity for ministry in very practical ways.  Following the workshop parishioners will have a much deeper understanding of the challenges confronting our parish.

Parishioners must decide whether or not they are willing to invest in ministry in Loudoun County.  The opportunity to bless the families of Ashburn is great.  However, our capacity for ministry is severly restricted by financial realities that have hobbled this congregation for almost ten years.  It can only be overcome by parishioner commitment.

Image"Before the Vestry can make a choice that determines the future of the parish," the Rector said, "it must help our parshioners come to terms with our capacity for ministry.  Conversations I have had with parishioners suggest a profound lack of understanding of our financial condition. This lack of understanding must come to an end."

The Vestry needs input from the parish based on a common understanding of the truth of the parish's viability.  For the past two years our current Rector has done his best to inform the congregation.  In two State of the Parish forums, and in countless articles, he has demonstrated how our ministry cannot thrive under current limitations.

The Truth or Consequences workshop will provide the means for this understanding to grow and spead throughout the parish.

The workshop will take place in three waves.

The first wave will involve 40 parishioners who will play the game in ten teams of four.  Each team will be led by a member of the Vestry.  They will then be trained in how to facilitate the game for others.

The second wave will involve between 200 and 350 parishioners.  They will play the game in teams of four to eight led by members of the Vestry or one of the original forty who had participated in the first wave.

A third wave will involve additional parishioners who have not yet had the opportunity to play.

The Truth or Consequences workshop will be the first step in a process the Vestry will use as it seeks parishioner input for its decision on May 28, 2008.
