Page 3 of 4 What does this mean for a preschooler at St. David's?- Students are active learners here. They learn by doing. They draw conclusions on their own with modeling and thought-provoking dialogue from the teachers.
- Students initiate and plan their activities under the guidence of teacher-facilitators.
- Exploration, invention, problem solving and critical thinking are important to become a lifelong learner. Students discover new ways to solve problems and to make connections between materials.
- Students learn colors, shapes, letters, numbers, etc. in content through meaningful experiences taught throughout the day in the natural setting.
- Teachers ask probing and thought-provoking questions while playing alongside their students. They actively listen when the preschoolers discuss and explain what they are doing. Teachers challenge them to think and ask questions along the way. They encourage them to speak about their experiences and present them with rich vocabulary to express themselves in a variety of ways.
- Teachers encourage students to be creative. Children recieve similar materials but may devise their own creations.
- Teachers respect students as individuals each with his or her own uniqueness. The teachers strive to make all children feel God's love for them and feel that his love is with us at all times.
- Teachers model values grounded in the wisdom of the biblical tradition. Students participate every other week in Sing and Celebrate, a child-friendly worship service in the church.
- Parents participate in various activities. Parents of Preschoolers (POPs) are involved special events and other volunteer activities.
