The Episcopal Church embraces a rich Catholic and Protestant heritage. Rooted in the ancient heritage of the Early Church, and formed by the reformation in England, the Episcopal Church organized as an independent church from the Church of England following the American Revolutionary War. Today the Episcopal Church enjoys a dynamic relationship with the world-wide Anglican Communion. Diversity, generosity of mind, and grace in the midst of diverging opinion on complex issues best describes our ethos. We find our lives rooted in the profound mystery of God at work in Jesus Christ. We believe the Holy Spirit moves among people who gather to pray, to listen to Word of God and to be faithful in love of God and Neighbor. The Book of Common Prayer unites us in worship. It provides a basic structure for worship while allowing for local variation in expression. We are united by our “common prayer.” This allows for a union of hearts while graciously respecting differences of opinion in relation to our understanding of faith.
