Our Story
The story of St. David’s is a story of faith. We have been blessed with stewardship of sacred ground, on which God has been worshiped and glorified for over 150 years. The Episcopal Church on our campus dates back to 1836. Margaret Mercer purchased Belmont plantation to establish a progressive Christian school for young ladies. With a desire to provide access to education for all children, her students included both nonpaying children and those from wealthier families. We worship on this ground because of the wisdom and foresight of faithful people who risked building something new for God’s purpose. In 1989, four households joined in a journey of prayer, study and fellowship to plant a new parish at Belmont. With only 12 members, our church was accepted as a mission church of the Diocese of Virginia in January 1990. Today, we are a covenant community where no one stands alone. Together we are learning to love one another as we learn to be loved by Jesus. Any time. Any place. When we come here, we see God in all things. The story of St. David’s is a story of people committed to God. We are blessed to be part of a covenant community in which the love and compassion of Christ are manifested daily. We are an inclusive, welcoming community, caring for one another, celebrating blessings and supporting one another through life’s toughest times. Our worship reflects our love of God and our gratitude for all God has given us. Our five root values and seven spiritual disciplines give us practical tools through which we live out our faith, so that we are learning to see God in all things, and in each other, and reflect God’s love to heal a hurting world. The story of St. David’s is our story. God has called each of us to this place. Each of us offers a unique gift to contribute to ministry at St. David’s. Our model for ministry intentionally depends on lay leadership and involvement. St. David’s relies on each of us giving all we can to make our covenant community work. The story of St. David’s is ultimately a story of Spirit-the Spirit of God moving through and among us as God’s people. Knowing that all things come of God, seeing god in all things, let’s work together to live into God’s imagination for us and for St. David’s. Want to learn more about our parish?
