Pastoral Care

The Pastoral Care team at St. David’s reaches out to provide care and support to parishioners in need though personal connection, Lay Eucharistic Visitors , the  prayer tree , the prayer quilt  and meals ministry. We are a covenant community where no one stands alone. For more information or to join one of these teams contact pastoralcare@sdlife.org.
You can learn more about our pastoral care team here.

Prayer Tree

The St. David's Prayer Tree consists of teams of parishioners committed to a ministry of prayer. The prayer tree has three components.
  • Parishioners, and their immediate family members, with serious or life-threatening illnesses may be placed on the full prayer tree.
  • Parishioners, family members or family friends who are not as critically ill, or have a life situation that is not as ‘critical’ as those described above, are assigned to an individual prayer team for prayer for two months.
  • The third component is a “Day of Prayer”. If we receive a request informing us that someone is undergoing surgery or testing, all members of the Prayer Tree will pray throughout the day for that person.
If you would like to join this wonderful and gratifying ministry, please contact prayer@sdlife.org. To make a prayer request, please use our on-line request form. All prayer requests are confidential.

Pastoral Care Visitors

As an extension of our Lay Eucharistic Visitors, some team members have offered to serve as Pastoral Care Visitors.
Anyone already in a Shepherd Group knows how bonds of friendship formed there make the Shepherd Group a natural first contact for pastoral needs. However, occasional needs arise that are beyond the scope of Shepherd Groups. In these cases, the group leader will contact Parish Staff for additional support.
If pastoral visits would be helpful as part of this support please contact Maureen Carey, lay pastoral assistant, or call the office at 703-729-0570.

If you are unable to be with your community due to illness or surgery, and would like communion brought to you at home please contact Allan Steed, Lay Eucharistic Visitor (LEV) Leader, to schedule a LEV visit.

Lay Eucharistic Visitors

Lay Eucharistic Visitors (LEVs) care for those who are shut in their homes and are in danger of being isolated. They carry bread and wine that have been blessed at the Sunday service to those who cannot make it to church.
In serving communion to one to five parishioners each Sunday, LEVs share the risen life of Jesus Christ with many who need it on a short term basis and with those few who require long term care.

Prayer Quilt Ministry

The idea behind these quilts is simple, yet powerful. A heavy thread is used to take stitches through the quilt layers, and the ends are left free to be tied with a square knot. As each knot is tied, a silent prayer is offered for someone in need of comfort or healing- someone who has asked the members of our Community to pray for them. The quilt is then given to that person. Adult and teen quilts are approximately 42”x 54” while baby/children quilts are 28” x 28”.

If you would like to request a prayer quilt for yourself, a family member, who is in need of comfort or healing, please  be sure the recipient is a willing one, and contact prayerquilt@sdlife.org or contact the church office. If possible, please give at least 1 week notice to make the quilt and set arrangements for tying of the quilt on Sunday morning.

If you are interested in donating some of your time, talents, fabric or other supplies to the Prayer Quilt Ministry, please contact prayerquilt@sdlife.org.

Meals Ministry

The mission of the St. David’s  Meals Ministry is to demonstrate the love of our Lord by providing meals to those in our community that are in need and to supplement what is already being provided. Our Meals Ministry Team seeks to honor and glorify God and serve the St. David’s community by providing food, love, and prayer. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another (John 13:35).

If you have any questions, please contact Allison at  mealsministry@sdlife.org
